Since the 1970s, rocket propulsion motor specialist, Snecma Propulsion Solide has mastered the development and production of carbon-carbon components. In partnership with ArcelorMittal, the company has now developed rolls that have been successfully operated on steel strip continuous annealing lines for more than a year without maintenance or production interruptions. Yield has been significantly improved. Here, Dr Marc Lacoste, Alain Lacome, Olivier Drevet and Rémi Bessettes* describe c-c roll design and manufacture, advantages compared to metallic rolls, along with technical and industrial benefits.
